What's going on?

To all my friends and readers

Sometimes life deals you a challenging hand.

I haven't posted to this blog since July because some medical issues got in the way. Without a lot of detail, I was hospitalized in Newfoundland and ended up with a pacemaker. I got to see the inside of Twillingate, Gander and St. John's hospitals, and was well taken care of. Also some long and uncomfortable rides in ambulances.

I wish I could say it ended there.

Some symptoms started creeping up on me when I got home at the end of August and now as I write this, it turns out that my cancer has come back with a vengeance. Those who know me personally know that I'm 15 years in after treatment for metastatic thyroid cancer. It has decided to take another kick at me, this time more seriously. And other complications.

I haven't been able to eat or drink more than a few swallows since the beginning of September. I've lost a bunch of weight, I have zero energy and have basically been housebound (when not admitted to the hospital) for the past couple of weeks. I have some pain from a significant sized tumor.

I sit here waiting to find out if they will be able to treat me with some targeted chemotherapy which could possibly buy me some extra time. Not a Hell of a lot, if you read between the lines. But there's always hope...

It was prophetic that I decided to sell my house and move back to Toronto "when I could instead of when I had to". Just in time, it seems.

It's very hard to get motivated to pick up a camera and in fact I haven't in over two months. I hope I can again and am able to express myself.

I'll do my best to keep you informed of developments. Thanks in advance for NOT inundating me with messages and phone calls.

Last time out was mid September in Algonquin with Ron, Rob and a bunch of other RHCC folks.
